Business - As Personal As It Gets

A lot of what I do involves safely guiding entrepreneurs through the minefield of setting up their businesses. They come to me with an idea or a concept – they have discovered that this is their life purpose, this is what they are meant to do and offer to the world.  But they have no idea how and usually don’t have the resources to get started.  The more they try to find a solution, the more they feel disappointed or let down by a system they don’t understand.

They come to me for help thinking that what they need is business advice and legal guidance and yes, they do need this, but they also need someone who can do more than just run through the checklist of business basics and legal requirements. 

They need a personal business advisor who is willing to connect and take a holistic approach in understanding who they are, why they are here, what they want to achieve and how they can do it.  They need someone who can enter their mind-set, listen to their problems and concerns and work with them to find the right, personalised solution.  What may have worked for one client in the past will not always work for another.  And the reason for this is that when we look at our clients as the unique individuals that they are, I mean really look, we can see beyond the legal issue or business set back that they are coming to us with.  We can see what drives them, what inspires them and what dreams need nurturing.  

Being a personal business advisor means that you must listen before you speak, you must be willing to roll up your sleeves, get back to basics and take the time to see the world through your client’s eyes.  You need to follow your client’s intuition and your own as you tailor your approach and help them choose the solutions that are the best fit for their problems.

My job is not to navigate the corporate/commercial world as an advisor armed with a spreadsheet, template documents and a one-size-fits-all solution, but to connect on a deep and meaningful level with my clients and nurture a relationship of trust, respect and mutual understanding that is key to moving forward.  Only then can I really offer the services my clients need and replace their stress and uncertainty with excitement and clarity. 

This is the cornerstone of my work and one of the most rewarding things I do, whether it is for an entrepreneur or an established business owner.  Providing a personalised conduit for growth, change and ethical business practices drives innovation at every level, empowering and inspiring us to keep connecting and reminding us that business is as personal as it gets.
